Unseemly botanical names, part 1: ebony spleenwort

Poor ebony spleenwort.  It’s such a cute little fern, but this species (Asplenium platyneuron) has one of the most off-putting common names of any plant.  Perhaps we should launch a campaign to change the name to something less… organy?

Some ideas:  glossy fun fern, ebony beauty, little green fern…. anything except spleenwort.  Anybody else have a good name we can use?

But I digress… this plant is found mostly on the rock outcrops near the river on our property, with scattered locations off of the rocks in other places.  I find that it tends to also like old tip-up mounds.
