Our farm is located in Hurdle Mills, North Carolina on the banks of the Flat River. This area, including many of the properties nearby, has a long history as a center of tobacco production. Luckily, our particular tract of land was most likely used mainly as pasture and hayfields for the last hundred years, so the soils are relatively healthy and rich.
We actively manage the front 6 acres as farmland, with about 1 acre currently in cultivation and the rest as old fields, shrublands, and a small farm pond. The back 4 acres are a heavily wooded slope that acts as a buffer between our cultivated lands and the Flat River.
